WHEN YOU QUIT SMOKING...
Within 20 minutes of your last cigarette:
~You stop polluting the air
~Your blood pressure drops to normal
~The temperature of your hands and feet increases to normal
~Carbon monoxide levels in your blood drops to normal
~Oxygen level in you blood increases to normal
24 Hours:
~The chance of heart attack decreases
48 Hours:
~Your nerve endings adjust to the absence of nicotine
~Your ability to smell and taste things is enhanced
72 Hours:
~Your bronchial tubes relax, making breathing easier
~Your lung capacity increases
Two weeks to three months:
~Circulation improves
~Walking becomes easier
~Lung function increases up to 30 percent
One to nine months:
~Coughing, sinus congestion, fatigue and shortness of breath all decrease (NOTE: I had, as you all know, a terrible cough, which went away in ONE week! I also suffered with chronic broncial infections at least twice a year which went into infection, I have NOT had one sinus or broncial infection in the nearly 4 years since I quit smoking!!)
~The cilia regrow in your lungs, increasing the ability to handle mucus, clean the lungs, and reduce infection
~Your body's overall energy level increases
One year:
~Heart disease death rate is halfway back to that of a nonsmoker
Five years:
~Heart disease death rate drops to the rate of nonsmokers
~Lung cancer death rate decreases halfway back to that of nonsmokers
10 years:
~Lung cancer death rate drops almost to the rate for nonsmokers
~Precancerous cells are replaced
~The incidence of other cancers - of the mouth, larynx, esophagus, bladder, kidney and pancreas - decrease
(Source: California Departmanet of Health Services)
Note: I kept a copy of this with me through my quit time, it was a great inspiration. Here are a few thoughts that can be added to the list:
~You will feel better immediately
~The crave last seconds, grit your teeth you can handle it!
~You will smell better
~You will think more highly of yourself
~Remember this: Cigaretts take your breath away, one day it won't give it back
~You can live your life as you want, not as your "old buddy" wants, in other words you will TAKE CONTROL of your LIFE, and the smokes will never rule your life again.
~I love you all...do it for yourself!

Blonde Joke to End all Blonde Jokes
(um, a blonde sent me this joke:)
A blonde woman was speeding down the road in her little red sports car and was pulled over by a woman police officer who was also a blonde.
The policewoman asked to see the blonde's driver's license.
She dug through her purse and got progressively more agitated. "What
does it look like?" she finally asked.
The policewoman replied, "It's a 2X3 inch square and it has your picture on it."
The driver finally found a square mirror in her purse, looked at it
and handed it to the policewoman. "Here it is," she said.
The blonde officer looked at the mirror, then handed it back saying,
"Okay, you can go. I didn't realize you were a cop."

The Bermans Are Coming for Thanskgiving!
John and I will be staying in town this year for Thanksgiving and his parents and sister Julia will be joining us at Grandma's this year! I called to warn Grandma earlier about the additional guests, she wasn't home but Uncle Chris said the more the merrier, lol.
John's Grandmother and her husband George from Lousiville may be joining us as well (some of you have met them at the wedding and Dommie's birthday parties).
Just a heads up to everyone else. :)

Our Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, Best Friend....
Re: The Second Annual "Grass is Always Greener at Grandma's House" money drive
&
Re: They took her keys away!!!!
Mom is having a lot of tests run to find out what is causing her to have spells of lightheadedness, fainting, fatigue, among other symptoms. Until they get to the cause the doctors do not want her to drive. Our Mom has always been a very independent individual and prides herself on how well she takes care of herself and so this is a setback for her, even if she does not say it is. In her own "McClellan-Riggsby" fashion she is dealing with this very well. But do her a favor and keep her in your thoughts, if you can call to see what she's up to, if she would like to take a ride (she loves to go for rides in the country, and it's such a great way to hear all of her memories!), if she needs to get to the store or just out shopping, does she have a social affair that she needs a ride to, or an upcoming Doctors visit she needs to get to. Mom means so much to all of us, and although I am very sure that she will get her keys back it is a wake up call for all of us, sort of a trial run of what the future will bring someday, hopefully way later then sooner!!
AND...on another note:
Christmas is coming, last year we raised a good deal of money for Mom's lawn mowing service. I am hoping to get the news out early this year, so that money can be set aside and will not intrude on your own Christmas expenses as we get closer to the holidays. Whatever you can afford to give and pass on this information to all family members so that we can come up with a great gift for Mom. I am looking to see around $1000.00 in this effort. We should try to pull our resources together by Thanksgiving.
Thanks all, I love you! Auntie Deb

When you decide to quit:
We've all smoked (most of us), and we have enjoyed our smokes, some of us have enjoyed our "quit". When you decide to quit, there's a special link with a little gift to help you on your way. So check out the "Silk Quit" link. Hurry we're waiting for you. Love, Your Sis & Auntie, Deb
P.S. If you don't, DON'T! It's NOT cool, they use you, they rule your life, they set the pace for what you can do and they will kill you, you are all too special to me, so DON'T start and DO quit. Rule your own life!
